IN THANKSGIVING

Thanksgiving was only observed on one day, but was many days in the coming for those who helped prepare the wonderful “Meal of Thanksgiving” offered by our church on Thanksgiving Day. There were all those who brought turkeys, potatoes, olives, pickles, carrots, celery, and all the things to make the meal truly a gift of ourselves to our community. Over three days the kitchen was filled with the happy sounds of people at work, preparing our message of love. We cannot thank individually all who brought food, because some of it just appeared. But we can thank those of you who prepared and served, and set tables, greeted and cleaned up.  As you look at these names, store them in your mind, and when you see the loved one to match the name,

give a hug, or a smile, or a “thank you”. Kitchen workers were Beatrice Lott, June Jacobson , Jay Stabler, Ruth Hiersemann, Dean and Barbara Malmo, Janie Cuffe, Hal Wessels, Marsha Carr, Mary Napoleon, Tina and Ramatu Waller, Helen Bardwell, Helen Whitaker,  Maxine Wynne, Yonas Mesfin, and Yvonne Brown.

On Thursday morning we had many people arrive asking only to help with whatever needed to be done. So they worked to get things in order for our guests. The first family to arrive was the McGowens family, Gino and Kelly, and their children Cori and Cameron. A family who had traveled all the way from Gresham, OR (near Portland), Don and Shawna Christianson came with their five children, and worked at whatever we asked them to do, and then gifted us with their musical talent. They were a delightful family. Next came Almaz and Rahel Tilahun from Inglewood, who brought eight family members and friends. They also came to help. Our own members who were here on Thursday to greet and serve our guests were Dr. Kidd, Annie Burns, Paul Corniel , Susan Hubler, Rama Shah, Charlotte Hampton, Marie and Al Smith. The Rev. Calvin Moore was with us also.

Even though we did not have as many guests as we had hoped, we were blessed with love all around us. So what more could we ask for. We were here for all who wanted or needed to come. We know there were some who would have gone to sleep hungry that night, who did not because we were here. So our gift was blessed, and touched all in some way. A Happy Thanksgiving indeed!
