The Center for Lupus Care

The growing lupus community in and around Inglewood, represented by the Center for Lupus Care, a non-profit organization whose mission is to educate the general population about lupus with emphasis on those who suffer with the disease, are encouraging all doctors , no matter what their specialty is , to become informed about Systemic Lupus Erythematosus commonly known as lupus. Scientist suggests that it takes one to three years to diagnose lupus. We, the patients, believe that if more doctors knew the signs and symptoms of the disease the diagnosis time would be drastically shortened. Lupus is baffling, unpredictable and it mimics so many other diseases, it becomes devastating to the patient. All too often it is fatal. Lupus is America’s least recognized major disease. More people have lupus than Cerebral Palsy, Multiple Sclerosis, Sickle-Cell Anemia, Cystic Fibrosis, and AIDS combined in this country. Primary physicians and Dentist are usually the first to be made aware that something is wrong. Lupus is an autoimmune disease which affects one’s major organs.

Because of these facts, the Center for Lupus Care is hosting a” Day of Information”. Dr. Bevra Hahn, Chief of Rheumatology and Professor of Medicine at UCLA School of Medicine will lecture to Physicians Only on November 13th at Centinela Hospital in Inglewood, CA. from 10AM to 12:30PM in the Ira Kauffman Pavilion Auditorium. Dr. Hahn will lecture on Diagnosing and Treating Systemic Lupus Erythematosus. Dr. Bevra Hahn is also the co-author of the leading textbook on lupus, Dubois’ Lupus Erythematosus. A free lunch will be served and the afternoon sessionwill be a lecture for patients and their families given by Dr. David Klashman of Torrance Memorial. Dr Klashman will speak on the many manifestations of lupus and the known coping skills. All doctors in and around Southern California are invited to attend the morning lecture and all patients and their family are invited to attend the afternoon session and be ready to ask questions.
